Infant boy funeral clothing 1960

Infant Burial Clothing in 1960

I don’t know if anyone can answer this, but here goes:
My baby brother was born alive in 1961 in Texas, but died a few moments after birth. My mom never saw him and wasn’t allowed to go to the funeral. We have 1 picture that my uncle took of him. I am restoring that picture and trying to get as much detail as I can, for my mom, who is now 83 years old and in poor health. I am trying to find out what clothing he wore when he was buried. I can’t tell from the picture, but there must be a catalogue or something from that time that would show what he would have worn.
thanks for your help

I am so sorry to hear about your brother. Our family had a similar situation in the mid-50s. It’s very possible that your brother was buried in the gown they planned to have him christened in or in the layette they planned for him to wear when they brought him home from the hospital. A great way to see the type of clothes that everyday people wore in the day is through sewing patterns. I can’t post a photo there but if you type “1960s christening gown” or “1960s baby layette” into Google you’ll find lots of examples. Here’s a link to one on Pinterest:
Both Pinterest and Etsy seem to have a lot. Ebay also has quite a few actual gowns from the period.
I hope this helps at least a little bit!
