Our Annual Planning Tips

February 2021

WHAT’S YOUR PLAN?

We’re fond of saying that the best time to plan a funeral is before you need it. That’s because when you plan for your end-of-life needs, you are likely to save money and, at the same time, give your loved ones the peace of mind that comes with knowing exactly what you want when the time comes.

Our planning tools are designed to help you plan your way–with as much or as little detail as you want. Because we’re 24/7 you can access your plan at whatever time of day is best for you.

If you already have a plan with us, now is a great time to take a fresh look to ensure your needs haven’t changed. We made many improvements to the planner in 2020, so there may be features you haven’t tried yet. What are you waiting for if you don’t have a plan yet? There’s no cost or obligation.

If you’ve already purchased a paid plan through a funeral home or cremation provider, you may be wondering why you need our plan. Take a minute to read the article below to find out why having both can make a lot of sense.

WHY HAVE A FUNERALWISE PLAN WHEN YOU ALREADY HAVE A PREPAID PLAN?

One common question about our Wise Planning System is, “Why would I need your preplanner if I already have a paid funeral plan through a funeral home or cremation service?” It’s a good question. Luckily, we have a good answer.

The Funeralwise Wise Planning System does things that a paid funeral plan doesn’t. While a paid funeral plan is the right tool to get all your arrangements paid for upfront, it doesn’t necessarily specify all the details. Our Wise Planning System, on the other hand, helps you lay out the details for things like what you’d like your ceremony to include, store biographical information that can be used for your obituary or eulogy, and lots more.

CREATING A CEREMONY

Over the past decade, a key trend in the funeral industry has emphasized personalizing the funeral or memorial service. This trend has led to what we now call a “Celebration of Life.”

It’s easy to understand why we want a personal ceremony that truly reflects on the life of the deceased rather than an out-of-the-box cookie-cutter event. The trouble is, it’s not always easy to know where to start.

To help you plan a Celebration of Life for you or a loved one, we’ve created a special section on our website full of advice, tips, and how-tos. We encourage you to take a look. There is no one-size-fits-all. An end-of-life ceremony can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. The main thing to remember is that the goal is to honor a well-lived life.

CHOOSING FUNERAL PRODUCTS

Whether you are preplanning for your end-of-life or shopping for a death that has happened or is imminent, one of the most challenging tasks is deciding which funeral products to buy.

The sheer number of products from which to choose is a key factor in making shopping so hard. There are choices in all styles, materials, colors, and price ranges. Costs can range widely, and understanding what goes into pricing complicates things.

Before you begin to shop, the best thing you can do is learn more about the questions to ask and the factors to consider. This will help you narrow your choices and select the items that mean the most to you. Our Buying Funeral Products page can help. It includes information on caskets, urns, headstones, and other common items you’ll need.
